“Remembrance” – Whole School Prayer Resources

We are in the 32nd week of Ordinary Time and the Word of the week is “Remembrance”!
In our faith, remembrance is more than just remembering the past; it’s about keeping our
connection to God and to our loved ones alive. We remember the saints and martyrs who came before us, their examples guiding us on our own journey. We remember the sacrifices of Jesus and we remember those who have passed away, their love and influence continuing to shape us. Remembrance is a way to honour our past, cherish our present, and hope for our future.
This week we are praying for…
- Pope Leo’s monthly intention for November: Let us pray that those struggling with suicidal thoughts might find the support, care and love they need in their community, and be open to the beauty of life.
- All those affected by war and all who have died as a result of war
- For the end of bullying and the work of anti-bullying alliance

ANTI- BULLYING WEEK

Gather
Thank you to the Prayer and liturgy and News and Communications mission team for creating this week’s resources!
This morning we have our virtual celebration of the word. To help us focus, you might dim the lights, turn on an electric candle if you have one, or move a cross or religious object to the front.
Response

Mission (there will be some time to complete the response and mission in tomorrow’s form time)

Gather
Every prayer time begins with us gathering together.
To help us focus, you might dim the lights, turn on an electric candle if you have one, or move a cross or religious object to the front. As students are entering the room this morning, you might like to play this instrumental music to help create a calm atmosphere.
Let us begin this time of prayer together, we invite you to join in making the sign of our faith:
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Today, we are going to spend some extra time reflecting on the response and mission part of yesterday’s Celebration of the Word for Remembrance.
If you didn’t have chance to send your A4 poppy round the form yesterday, please spend some time doing that today. Then stick your poppy up on your prayer board.

Now it’s time to complete yesterday’s mission, using the candle prayer templates. Please hand the candles out to anyone who would like to make an entry to our school’s remembrance book.

Once the candles have been completed, please send the candles down to the chapel or to B11 where some of the Chaplaincy Team will be meeting this week.

To conclude our prayers of remembrance and for all souls this morning, in your prayer journals we invite you to write the eternal rest pray as we pray for all of the names that have been written and all of the names that remain in our hearts who have died. We pray for everyone’s friends and relatives who have been thought about this morning…
Please write the prayer out, decorate it and then pray together…
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace.
Let us finish this time of prayer together, by making the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
You can also come down to the chapel to write in the Remembrance book during the month of Remembrance.

This week is Anti-Bullying Week, a time when schools and communities across the country focus on how we can stop bullying and create a safer, more welcoming environment for everyone.
The official theme is ‘Power for Good’. Bullying often happens when someone uses their power, their voice, their popularity, their physical size, or even their anonymity online to hurt someone else.
But we all have power. We have the power of our voice, the power of our kindness, the power to stand up for others, and the power to choose. Today, we’re going to reflect on how we can consciously use that power for good not just for ourselves, but for our community here at school and beyond.
Reflecting on the video and our theme, how can you use your unique power for good in and out of school this week, and every week?
- At School: What specific actions can you take in the classroom, the dining room, or the corridors to be an ally or to include someone who looks lonely?
- Online: What does using your power for good look like on social media or in group chats? (e.g., stopping a negative thread, sending a positive message).
- In the Moment: If you witness bullying, what is one safe thing you can do to interrupt or report the situation? (Remember: standing up for someone doesn’t always mean confronting the bully; it can mean telling a trusted adult.)
Now, please split into groups of three or four. Take 5 minutes to discuss these questions. Focus on concrete actions not just what you should do, but what you will do.
After 5 minutes: Let’s come back together. We would like one person from each group to share just one concrete idea they discussed for using their power for good this week.

Thank you to everyone who shared. If you have any great ideas to support antibullying in our school, please drop them in the comments box for our new school council and the Chaplaincy team to take a look at!
Let us pray together…
Lord, we thank you for the power of choice you have given us. Help us to remember the power for good we carry in our words, our actions, and our silence. Give us the courage to be kind when it is hard, the wisdom to stand up for those who need us, and the strength to build a community where everyone feels safe, valued, and loved. Amen.
Let us finish this time of prayer together, by making the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

🎉 Today is more time to make your toilet roll Saints! Get creative and we can’t wait to see them next week for filming! 🎉
The deadline and filming date for our All Saints catwalk is Thursday 20th November!
Your Mission: Build a Saint!
Each form is asked to collect or bring in one toilet or kitchen roll to start with – you can make more than one saint if you want to boost your chances of winning! With this roll, you are challenged to get crafty and build a saint that we can celebrate and learn from in this month of Remembrance!
- Choose a saint (or saints) to research and celebrate.
- Learn about their life, story, symbols, and virtues.
- Plan how you’ll bring them to life using your cardboard roll.
Think about:
- What they’re known for
- What they might be holding, what they might be wearing
- What colours or symbols represent them
- How you’ll make them recognisable and inspiring
- What materials you will use
Every entry should include a decorated roll representing your chosen saint(s) and a plaque with their name and a fact or quote about them.
As you make your saints rolls, listen to this version of the Litany of Saints by Matt Maher, and join in once you’ve got the tune!
The Litany of the Saints is a prayer that lists many holy people, like Mary, apostles, and martyrs, and asks them to pray for us. It’s a way to ask for their help as we try to live like Jesus, with the belief that they are in heaven and can intercede for us on Earth.
Closing Prayer
Loving God,
We thank You for the saints –
for their example of faith, courage, and service.
May their lives inspire us to follow You more closely,
to live with love, and to serve others with joy.
Help us to walk in their footsteps,
guided by Your Spirit and strengthened by Your grace.
Amen.
Let us finish this time of prayer together, by making the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
