We are in the 33rd week of Ordinary Time and the Word of the week is “Youth”!
This week we are praying for…
- All young people! Especially the young people and children in our schools across the Our Lady of Lourdes Trust.
- Loved ones who have died, during this month of Remembrance.
- Pope Leo’s monthly intention for November: Let us pray that those struggling with suicidal thoughts might find the support, care and love they need in their community, and be open to the beauty of life.
Collective Worship and Catholic Life Rota
Monday – This week’s Youth COTW is virtual and can be accessed under the “Monday” tab. Students will need their prayer journals for the COTW.
No Chaplaincy meeting or breaktimes in the chapel on Monday as Ruth and Joe are on a training day.
Tuesday Form Time – Please can all of the Chaplaincy Team meet in the chapel for a meeting and to sign up to be on the new Chaplaincy Team registers for Arbor.
Wednesday is Red Wednesday and we are supporting Aid to the Church in Need! Students and staff are encouraged to wear a splash of red as we stand in solidarity with persecuted Christians. There will be a cake sale for Aid to the Church in need on Wednesday – cake and money donations are very welcome!
Thursday is our deadline and filming day for our saints rolls competitions! At the beginning of Thursday form, please send 1 or 2 students from your form to the chapel with their saint rolls and name tag. Please make sure students sent down consent to being in a group photo.
On Friday, it is the Chaplaincy Team retreat and training day. All chaplaincy team members will be in the hall/chapel during periods 1-3 (unless decided otherwise) and students leading the Advent community evening will be preparing and rehearsing in the afternoon.
Red Wednesday – 19th November!
6th form committee toy appeal
Donations are to be any unwrapped toy that is suitable for a child aged 0 to 18, which should either be new or used but in perfect condition. Students can bring in money if they would like to donate but find themselves unable to bring in toys, which will be collected Emilia or another member of the 6th form committee.
Advent Evening
Please see Ruth / Joe on Tuesday to sign up or return a letter if you haven’t already!
Chess Tournament
This Thursday (20th Nov) a chess competition will be starting in A2 at lunchtime. If you would like to get involved please speak to Mr Tuff or Mr Mosley to add your name in, staff are also welcome to get involved but spaces may be limited depending on numbers.
School Council – Submission deadline Mon 24th November
For students who would like to be nominated to stand for student council, we ask you to submit a letter of application to Miss Pyne stating:
1-What makes them a suitable candidate for the position-(personality traits)
2- What skills they have that would be beneficial to the Student Council-(e.g. organisation etc.)
3- Any ideas they have to advocate change/improve school life
And submit this no later than Monday 24th November with their full name and year group on the letter.
The elected members will then meet on Wednesdays in Tutor time to advocate changes to The Becket School.

Today is more time to make your toilet roll Saints!
Thursday is our deadline and we will be filming your rolls during Thursday form time in the chapel!
At the beginning of Thursday form, please send 1 or 2 students from your form to the chapel with your saint rolls and name tag. Please make sure students who are sent down give consent to being in a group photo.
Your Mission: Build a Saint!
Each form is asked to collect or bring in one toilet or kitchen roll to start with – you can make more than one saint if you want to boost your chances of winning! With this roll, you are challenged to get crafty and build a saint that we can celebrate and learn from in this month of Remembrance!
- Choose a saint (or saints) to research and celebrate.
- Learn about their life, story, symbols, and virtues.
- Plan how you’ll bring them to life using your cardboard roll.
Think about:
- What they’re known for
- What they might be holding, what they might be wearing
- What colours or symbols represent them
- How you’ll make them recognisable and inspiring
- What materials you will use
Every entry should include a decorated roll representing your chosen saint(s) and a plaque with their name and a fact or quote about them.
As you make your saints rolls, listen to this version of the Litany of Saints by Matt Maher, and join in once you’ve got the tune!
The Litany of the Saints is a prayer that lists many holy people, like Mary, apostles, and martyrs, and asks them to pray for us. It’s a way to ask for their help as we try to live like Jesus, with the belief that they are in heaven and can intercede for us on Earth.

for their example of faith, courage, and service.
May their lives inspire us to follow You more closely,
to live with love, and to serve others with joy.
Help us to walk in their footsteps,
guided by Your Spirit and strengthened by Your grace.

As we reflect on our Word of the Week: Youth, we want to celebrate the voices of young people in our school community. Your ideas, hopes, and experiences matter and they help shape the way we pray and worship together!

This week, we’ve been celebrating the theme of youth as we prepare for the Jubilee of Youth this Sunday! Youth are a gift – today and this weekend is all about celebrating youth in the church! Let’s hear more from our community about what makes young people so amazing!…
Remember, it’s World Youth Sunday on Sunday. Many churches will have young people leading parts of the celebrations of Mass. It would be brilliant to have you at Mass, all are welcome!
