This week’s prayer resources were planned by 13E – Thank you!
This week we are praying for:
The ongoing conflict in Israel, Gaza and Lebanon
Those who are sick and lonely in our community at the moment.
Please keep them in your prayers this week and don’t forget to add any suggestions for prayer intentions to the comments box below.
Celebration of the Word and Chaplaincy Rota:
This week, some of the Chaplaincy team will be visiting each form room to do an audit. E.g. the eco team will be checking that every room has a light switch sign and recycling sign and the prayer and Liturgy team will be checking each form prayer board. They will be there to help if you have any resources missing.
Monday – Year 8 in the chapel for COTW
Monday Becket Reads – If you are in the Eco mission team, Prayer and Liturgy Team and News and Comms team, please come to the chapel at the start of Monday’s Becket Reads.
Tuesday – Year 11 in the chapel for COTW, followed by Teresa House Mass.
On Tuesday, we are celebrating the feast day and house Mass for St Therese of Lisieux. 11T will remain seated in the chapel after their COTW and the rest of Y11 will leave via the chapel fire exits. If you are in Y7- 10 in Teresa House, you need to come straight to the hall at 9:05 for roll call and to be registered and then you will enter the chapel for Mass. Teresa Form Tutors – Please check the emails from Ruth about the Mass and make sure that you have shared your Mass parts with Ruth. The house Mass is voluntary for students in 6th form – please let your teacher know if you are attending the celebration.
Wednesday – Year 7 in the chapel for COTW
Thursday – Year 12 and 13 in the chapel for COTW
Friday – Year 9 and 10 in the chapel for COTW
Year 7 will have their welcome Mass on the afternoon of Monday 7th October. Ruth will send form tutors Mass parts for Tuesday morning that can be prepared in form time this week.
Friday – CAFOD’s Family Fast Day!
On Friday we are swapping our fairtrade tuckshop for soup and a bread roll for £1! We will be selling soup and a bread roll by the food tech doors on A floor to raise money and awareness for CAFOD. CAFOD is the official aid agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales and part of Caritas International, who reach out to people living in poverty with practical help, whatever their religion or culture. We challenge you to live and eat simply on Friday so that others can simply eat!
Season of Creation Creative Competition – deadline this week!
Please get your entries handed into Ruth or Mrs Conlon on Monday. We hope to reveal the winner on Friday on St Francis of Assisi’s Feast Day!

Hi everyone, we are 13E and we have planned this week’s resources!
The word of the week is “Solidarity”. Solidarity is a principle of Catholic Social Teaching. This means that it is rooted in scripture and writings of the church by leaders and saints.
In the Catholic faith, we are called to be in solidarity with the poor and the marginalised. Even if we have not met a person, our faith creates an obligation to support them because we are all interconnected.
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew
R/.Glory to you O Lord
For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you as a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’

As we begin this time of prayer, we invite you to join us in making the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
For our “hear” resource we would like you to listen to the song below chosen by 13E
This song will help us to create a Chain of Solidarity that we’ll add to our prayer boards.
Every form should have slips of paper in their house colour and each student and staff member needs one slip each.
Write on your slip of paper a community or person you want to stand in solidarity with.
You might want to write about people who are discriminated against because of their race, gender, religion, sexual orientation etc., or people who are suffering through war and conflict.
Decorate and join the slips of paper together with staples or glue to make a solidarity chain in your form room and hang it on your form prayer board, or on your door for all to see. This will symbolise that you stand in solidarity with these people and communities around the world.
Lord, help us to be a link in a chain of solidarity, helping those most in need in our world. Amen

Solidarity can be expressed in many different ways. Often simple, powerful actions that show we support and stand with those who are marginalised have a huge impact and can lead to change.
In this clip, from the film Hidden Figures we get a glimpse at the very real discrimination that was experienced by African-American women during the 60’s and 70’s in America. Despite being crucial to the space program and brilliant talented mathematicians, they were victims of sexism and racism.
In this clip we see the brilliant Mathematician Katherine Goble portrayed as she worked doing manual orbit calculations for the first astronauts.
Take some time to think about how the clip made you feel.

To celebrate this special day, your form has received a little gift from the Eco Mission Team, waiting on your form tutor’s desk… Meet the newest member of your form: your very own peace plant! 🌱 Your mission now is to care for it, nurture it, and watch it grow, just as we are called to care for all creation and share peace. Let’s work together to live simply and sustainably!
Along with your plant you will have received a piece of card with some rules and suggestions for caring for your form plant, a space for you to name your plant and a space for all members of your form to sign as you pledge to care for your plant as a team. Please stick this card up next to your plant or on your form prayer board.
Before we begin our time of prayer this morning, we would also like to update you with the results of our Season of Creation Creative Piece Competition which ends today!…A huge thank you to everyone who entered (and who have won their house points!) – we can’t wait to show case all of your work soon. Congratulations to our first, second and third place pieces!…

As we draw towards the end of the season of creation, we are going to remember the words from Laudato Si, “hear the cry of the earth, the cry of the poor”. Climate change and pollution particularly effects those who are must vulnerable. The poorest people bear the greatest burden of climate change, despite it being largely caused by the actions of the wealthy. We must remember to stand in solidarity with those affected by climate change.
We are creating the final prayer reflection that will be added to our Season of creation prayer display board. You can see the progress of the board below…if you have any flowers, clouds, or water drops still in your classroom, please drop them off to Ruth or Mrs Conlon!
Each form group will have a leaf that will help to contribute to the final part of our display.
Write on the leaf something that you can do to stand in solidarity with those who are affected by climate change.
For example:
Take care of and be grateful for the resources I use.
Respect and care for nature
Try and reduce the amount of pollution I cause etc..
Today (Friday) is CAFOD family fast day. Live out our shared mission and come and join the Justice and Peace mission team for soup and a bread roll for £1 with all proceeds going to CAFOD.
And finally…
To celebrate the closing of the season of creation and to celebrate the feast day of our hub patron saints, St Francis of Assisi, the eco and sustainability mission team will be bringing each form a plant and pot as a gift, for you to love and care for as we strive to be great stewards of the earth!
Let us pray…
Lord, help us to care for our common home and stand in solidarity as stewards of God’s creation. Amen.

Asking those who are alone to join your group
The justice and peace group show solidarity by organising collections for those who are unfortunate. e.g those who are homeless and supported by emmanuel house.
Sports day, supporting our houses and standing with our competitors
Spanish football federation supporting black players against racism from supporters – this gives me hope
Footballers taking the knee before games to support ‘No Room for Racism’ – this gives me hope
