The Becket way word of the week – FORGIVENESS

Forgiveness means letting something go. This does not necessarily mean

• Forgetting what happened
• Having positive feelings towards the person who wronged you
• Excusing the person who wronged you and making excuses for you

Instead what it means is knowing that someone has done something wrong against you and voluntarily deciding not to get some sort of revenge. Letting the person know in some way that you don’t want revenge. Letting go negative feelings towards the person who wronged you – not bearing a grudge or inviting others to hate them as well.  There is an increasing amount of research on the benefits of forgiveness for our psychological and physical health. We are more likely to have a better mood, lower blood pressure and lower levels of anger and more satisfaction with life if we are able to forgive rather than look for revenge (positive freedom)

• Share with your tutor group –Why is this important in how we do things at The Becket School? Developing of character?
• Incorporate it within your conversation with students during lesson or unstructured time.
• Include in any roll call that week.

Lord,
Help us to be kind and generous, sharing what we have with those in need. Teach us to care for others, especially through CAFOD and the World Gifts, so we can make a difference in the lives of people around the world. Guide us to love like Jesus and always look for ways to help.

Good morning, let’s take a quick look at today’s Lenten challenge…

We invite you to start with the sign of the cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Today we’re going to think about how we can be heroes. We can, through small actions, do great and powerful things! Take a look below…

Think about what the video showed- how we are so fortunate, but not all people are. Think about the amazing work that Louis and Martin’s uncle, Augustin, has done in his community to provide education for the young people there to give them the best start in life and give them hope for their future.

In your prayer journals, firstly, write down all the things you’re grateful for. 

Let’s then think about those people who are doing amazing things, who are focused and dedicated to almsgiving. You could use the example of Louis and Martin or their uncle Augustin. Do you know someone who always gives to others and helps other families or friends in their time of need? Does someone in your life, at home, in parish, in school, go above and beyond to help others and give to those in need?

Write a prayer of thanks for those people and charities who do so much to help the poorest and most vulnerable. Then ask for God’s help to give you courage and strength to be more selfless and giving during this season of Lent and time of almsgiving.

Lord, we thank You for those who serve the poor with love and compassion;
Give us courage and strength to follow their example in this time of Lent. Amen.

Good morning, let’s take a quick look at today and Saturday’s Lenten challenge…

We invite you to begin this time of prayer by making the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

Today, we are going to think about our plans to DO some amazing almsgiving!

Today, we are going to think about what we can do to support a wonderful school in Benin, called Notre Dame de l’Eseprance (Our Lady of Hope) that is very close to some of our students hearts! Louis (yr 13) and Martin’s (yr 11) uncle, Augustin, has built a school for 78 students and 17 staff, years 7-11. They are in desperate need of some resources, and the list is below:

Your form teacher has a pledge that you need to fill out. 

Together, decide which gift you’d like to raise money for out of the list above. Write that on your pledge sheet. Then have a chat about what you could do as a form to raise the money. This could be in school, at home, in your local community, in your parish. 

The possibilities are endless! Write your ideas down on your pledge and put it in your prayer board to inspire you! You have until May half term to make this happen! Let’s change lives!
