The Becket way word of the week – Collective Responsibility

At the Becket School we are one community with a core mission to support all of our students to work hard, be loving and do the right thing.  We all have a role to ensure that each one of us has the best opportunities to do this and be successful in our academic work and our social and spiritual development.  We all have a role to play in making Becket the place we want it to be.  During your time at Becket you will be part of many smaller communities whether that be in the classroom, form group, year group, extra curricular clubs etc.  It will be important that you follow rules and expectations so that everyone in the community can maximise their learning or experience offered. 

• Share with your tutor group – Why are rules important in school? How do they keep everyone safe?
• Incorporate it within your conversation with students during lesson or unstructured time.
• Include in any roll call that week.

There are so many brilliant fundraising projects happening this week for Lourdes and Benin…consider bringing in some money to get involved, treat yourself or others and show your support for some great causes!

Luxury Hamper Raffle and Lucky Dip Easter Raffle

Some of our 6th form Lourdes students are selling raffle tickets for or exciting luxury hamper and lucky dip Easter raffle!!

For £2, you can enter our luxury hamper raffle, where you could have the chance to win a £10 Amazon gift card and lots of Easter goodies!

And for £1, you can enter our lucky dip raffle, where there are over 30 raffle prizes up for grabs, including Easter Eggs, treats, candles and toiletries. 

Pop to the chapel to buy tickets or look out for the 6th form students selling raffle tickets!

The Stations of the Cross

The Word of the Week is Sacrifice.

During Lent, we reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus and what it means for our lives. His sacrifice is a powerful reminder of God’s love for us. It also calls us to follow His example—living not just for ourselves, but for others, as humble servants.

This morning, the Prayer and Liturgy Team will lead us in the Stations of the Cross. Please take a moment to prepare yourselves and the room for prayer.

Throughout the Stations, there will be moments to join in with the responses and to pause for reflection after each station.

Let us open our hearts to this time of prayer together…

Good morning, let’s start the day by checking in with today’s Lenten challenge…

We are very excited to share that on Friday, all students will have the opportunity to watch Passio, this year’s Liturgical theatre performance of the Passion. You will notice that this week’s resources look a little different. For the remainder of the week, we will be hearing from a key character in Jesus’ Passion.

Today, we hear from Judas Iscariot…

The Crossroads of Choice

Judas’ name is remembered for betrayal. But was he so different from us?

Judas made a choice—one that led to devastating consequences. Yet how often do we make choices that hurt others? (Pause to reflect.)

How often do we follow the crowd rather than stand for what is right? (Pause to reflect.)

How often do we, in small or big ways, betray what we believe? (Pause to reflect.)

Have you ever stood at a crossroads, knowing what was right but feeling the pull of an easier path? (Pause to reflect.)

Have you ever felt regret for words spoken, actions taken, or moments of silence when you should have spoken up? (Pause to reflect.)

Judas says, “You still have a chance to make a stand.”

God’s mercy is always greater than our worst mistake.

As we heard in Sunday’s Gospel of the Prodigal Son, it is never too late to turn back to God, no matter what choices we have made. He will always be waiting with open arms.

Let us finish by praying a Penitential Act as we reflect on Jesus’ Love and Mercy…

Lord Jesus, You came to seek and save the lost, calling us back with love and compassion.
Lord, have mercy. Everyone: Lord, have mercy.

Lord Jesus, You forgave even those who betrayed and denied You, showing us the depth of Your mercy.
Christ have mercy. Everyone: Christ have mercy.

Lord Jesus, You open Your arms to welcome us home, no matter how far we have strayed.
Lord, have mercy. Everyone: Lord, have mercy.

Day 2: Caiaphas, the High Priest

We have just heard from Caiaphas, a man of power, influence, and control.

In his eyes, Jesus was a threat—someone who disrupted the order, questioned authority, and gave power to those who were considered weak or unimportant.

Take a moment for some silent reflection and listen to the following questions:

Think about the power structures in our world today. Where do you see injustice? (Pause to reflect.)

Where do we see people in power resisting change, fearing that their influence might be lost? (Pause to reflect.)

Who are the people working to challenge it? How can you be part of that change? (Pause to reflect.)

Jesus did not come to play a game of power.
He did not seek to overthrow rulers or take control.
Instead, He offered something far greater—truth, love, and a new way of living where all are valued.

In your prayer journals, we invite you to…

1. Write or draw about someone who inspires you—someone who challenges inequality and seeks to give a voice to the voiceless, like Jesus.
   
   This might be…
   • A peer who stands up for others.
   • A teacher or staff member who supports those in need and goes out of their way to go the extra mile.
   • Someone at your church who works for justice.
   • A public figure or activist who challenges wrongdoing.
     
2. Write a short prayer asking God for the courage to stand for truth, even when it is hard.
   You might begin with: Lord, help me to see the world as You do.
   Give me the strength to challenge what is wrong and the wisdom to act with love and justice.

Take a few moments to reflect and write from your heart. Know that even the smallest acts of courage and kindness can bring light to the world.

Let us pray…

Lord Jesus,
You stood firm in the face of opposition.
You spoke truth even when it was dangerous.
You lifted up the weak and challenged those who held power.

Give us the courage to stand for what is right,
Even when it is difficult.
Even when others doubt us.
Even when the world tells us to stay silent.

Help us to remember that true power is not found in control, but in love.
May we always choose Your way, even when the choice is hard.

Amen.

Good morning, let’s take a quick look at today and Saturday’s Lenten challenge…

We invite you to begin this time of prayer by making the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

In preparation for us viewing “Passio”, this year’s Liturgical theatre performance of the Passion, each day this week we are hearing from and reflecting on a character in the story.

Today, we hear from Jesus’ mother, Mary. We are going to see and hear from a WhatsApp conversation between Mary and Jesus.

Let’s take a moment to be still. Imagine Mary’s voice echoing through time—a mother calling out to her son, full of love, fear, and faith.

Mary’s words in the video remind us that she was not just the Mother of God—she was a mother, full stop. A mother who was worried. A mother who longed to protect her child. A mother who felt the weight of watching him suffer.

Imagine the pain of knowing your child is walking a road of suffering. Knowing that the world does not understand him. That he is rejected, despised, condemned. Imagine the ache in Mary’s heart as she waits for a response, desperate just to hear his voice.

In our own lives, we may not always understand God’s plan. Like Mary, we may feel helpless, watching things unfold that we cannot control. Yet Mary teaches us what it means to trust, to love deeply, and to stay by Jesus’ side no matter what.

• Have you ever felt like you didn’t understand what God was doing in your life?
• How can you, like Mary, stay close to Jesus even in difficult moments?

(Pause for a short time of silent reflection.)

Praying with Mary

Let’s turn to Mary now, asking her to walk with us in our struggles and to help us trust in God’s plan, even when we do not understand it.

Together, we pray:

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

May Mary’s love remind us today of the power of faith, even in the face of fear.

Let us end this time of prayer with the Sign of the Cross.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
