This week we are praying for:
- Those who have lost their lives in war and conflict
- Year 11 as they take part in their mock exams

The 11th of November is the National Day of Remembrance. At 11am on Tuesday we will have a 2 minute silence to remember and pray for all who have died from war. Ollie Coleman will be playing the last post in the plaza for those whose classroom faces it.

Friday: Period 1 and Becket Reads – Nicholas House Mass
Nicholas House Mass – Friday 15th November
On Friday during period 1 (and into Becket Reads) Nicholas House will be celebrating their house Mass in the chapel.
Mass parts have been sent to Nicholas form tutors. If you are a Nicholas form, please complete your Mass part during form time. If you need any support with your Mass part, please let Ruth know.
Teaching staff – please be aware that students in Nicholas House will be missing from Friday’s period 1 lesson.
If you are teaching just a Nicholas group, please come to the chapel during Friday period 1. And if you are a Nicholas form tutor, please join the remainder of the House Mass in the chapel for Friday becket reads.
Youth Mass – 3pm on Saturday 23rd November at Holy Spirit Church in West Bridgford, NG2 7NT
On Saturday 23rd November at 3pm there will be a youth Mass at Holy Spirit Church and pizza refreshments after Mass!
Details for the Mass have been emailed home and we have asked parents to complete a form if they are attending. All young people and families are welcome!
There are lots of roles for young people to help lead during the Mass including reading, singing, altar serving, greeting, offertory, Gospel reflection or Liturgical dance?!
If you would like to attend the Mass and help out with a job, please ask your parent to complete the form, or speak to Ruth in the chapel to find out more!
Poetry Competition
The Tower Poetry Competition 2025 invites UK students aged 16-18 to submit an original poem (up to 48 lines) on this year’s theme by February 20, 2025. Prizes include £5,000 for 1st place, £3,000 for 2nd, £1,500 for 3rd, and ten £500 runner-up prizes. The top three winners also attend the Tower Poetry Summer School. Entry is free; more details are in the PowerPoint and on the Tower Poetry website. Please see Mr Myers in B13 for any more info.

Hi everyone, we are 10P and we’ve planned this week’s prayer resources!
This week we think about remembrance and take some time to reflect on the sacrifices that have been made by others, not just in war and conflict but throughout our lives. Have a listen to this week’s scripture and think about what it tells us.
A reading from St Paul’s Letter to the Corinthians
But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.

This time of year we reflect particularly on those who’ve lost their lives in conflict. 10P have chosen some poems that help us reflect on the realities of the sacrifices made for us.
Spend some time with your prayer journals while you listen to the words. Write down any words that stay with you and reflect on what is being read. Think about what it means to you.
Lord, Help us to to recognise and remember those who’ve gone before us. Amen

Today we;re going to focus on the image of the poppy. You will have seen lots of them around at this time of year and they have become a global symbol of remembrance.
This week, we’re going to work together to create a giant poppy for our school to help us reflect on those who’ve gone before us.
Examples for Red Paper (Prayer for Those Who Have Died):
- “Lord, we pray for all who have lost their lives in war. May they rest in your peace and be remembered for their bravery and sacrifice. Amen.”
- “Dear God, we remember those who gave everything so that others could live in peace. Bless them and their families, and may they find eternal rest. Amen.”
- “Heavenly Father, we pray for all souls lost in war. May they find peace with you, and may we remember their sacrifices with gratitude. Amen.”
Examples for White Paper (Prayer for Peace):
- “Lord, bring peace to the parts of our world that are torn by war. Let your love replace fear and bring hope where there is suffering. Amen.”
- “God of peace, we ask you to calm the storms of violence in our world. Help leaders and communities to find ways to live together in harmony. Amen.”
- “Dear God, we pray for all people living in places affected by war. May they feel your comfort, and may peace come to them soon. Amen.”

This morning we’re going to use our time to finish off our poppy activity and make sure everything is ready to assemble. If we get that finished we can also use this time to finish our Saints that we started last week. If you need some inspiration take a look at this entry from 11E:
Last week we launched our Chaplaincy house competition—Rolling with the Saints!
Your task is to choose at least one saint to research and celebrate. You’ve been given one toilet roll, but if you want to increase your chances of winning, you can make multiple saints!
Today, take some time to learn about the saint(s) you’d like to represent – be creative! Think about their story, what they are known for, and how you can bring their character to life using a toilet roll! Consider their appearance, any special symbols, and key details that make them unique and inspiring.
Once you’ve chosen your saint(s), plan out what your sculpture will look like. Will your saint be holding something special? What colours or features will help others recognise them?
You’ll also need to create a plaque for your saint. This should include their name, and you could add an interesting fact about them or a meaningful quote from them.
Next week, we’ll begin decorating, and you’ll have the chance to turn your ideas into a toilet roll sculpture. Have a think over the weekend if there are any resources you could bring in to help with the decorations.
This is a competition between forms, with exciting prizes for the winning group, so get ready to get creative!…And there will be a roll with the saints cat walk at the end of the month to celebrate your creations!
