Fasting – Main School prayer Resources
The Becket way word of the week – POSITIVE FREEDOMS
When we think about freedom we often associate it with not having rules or regulations, that we can do what we like whenever we like. This is called negative freedom. Negative freedom can lead to chaos and ultimately reduced freedom as people can be treated unkindly or experience bullying and injustice.
What is more important is Positive freedom. Positive freedom is when we have freedom from urges and emotions that control your actions. Through training and practice of positive habits we do not become slave to our emotions but can be self-disciplined particularly in situations which are challenging (monster moments). When we have positive freedom, we are more likely to be trusted by others and have greater independence and control over our life. We are more likely to build positive relationships with others and be successful in life.
- Share with your tutor group – what does this mean? Why is this important in your learning? Developing of character?
- Incorporate it within your conversation with students during lesson or unstructured time.
- Include in any roll call that week.
This week’s prayer resources were planned by 9T – Thank you!

Good morning, let’s take a quick look at today’s Lenten challenge…

We invite you to make the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
This week our amazing resources have been created by the wonderful 9T!
Let’s take a look at what our Word of the Week is…
Chat to the people around you, how might Jesus have felt when he was fasting? Why is fasting important, what benefits come from it?
Let’s finish with a prayer asking God to help us during this time of fasting.
Dear God,
Thank You for this special time of Lent, when we can grow closer to You together. Please give us the strength to fast with joyful hearts. Help us to focus on what truly matters and remind us that every small sacrifice is a way to show our love for You. When we feel weak or tempted, send Your Holy Spirit to guide us and give us courage. Let this time bring us peace and a deeper love for You and for others.
Amen.
We end our prayer with the sign of the cross,
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Good morning, let’s start the day by checking in with today’s Lenten challenge…

We invite you to make the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
Good morning everyone, let’s begin with the sign of the cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Let’s hear about some ideas 9T had about what they might fast from during this season of Lent.

Thanks 9T! Lots of inspiration there!
Remember, it doesn’t have to be fasting from food, instead it can be fasting from bad habits like biting your nails, having your shirt out or being late to lesson!
It could be fasting from social media or doom scrolling. In your prayer journals, write down one or two things you think would be beneficial for you to fast from.
Try and think about your reasons for those choices.
Then, if you have time, write a prayer asking God to help you with this during the season of Lent.
Maybe you could even write down the good things that can come from your fasting. Will you be healthier? Get better sleep? Help others with your generosity? Or have a closer relationship with God because of it? Write or draw these ideas in your prayer journal.
Let’s end with the sign of the cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
We end with the sign of the cross, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
This week’s Celebration of the Word is shared by Mr Kemple. Please make sure to create a prayerful atmosphere before beginning. Clear the desks, dim the lights, light a candle if you have one and get comfortable…
Good morning, let’s take a quick look at today’s challenge…

We invite you to start with the sign of the cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
On the 17th March it was Saint Patrick’s Feast Day! Make sure you say happy St Patricks day to our students in Patick House! Let’s hear about St Patrick now and see how 9T are inspired by him…
In your forms, think about who God the Father is to you and what He does for you. Consider who God the Son is and how He helps you.
Finally think about God the Holy Spirit and how He inspires you. You can write or draw symbols and pictures.
You could also add any scripture that makes you think of God the Father, Son or Holy Spirit too! Pin the sheet onto your Prayer Board when you’re finished to be inspired by St Patrick’s faith.

Let’s end with the sign of the cross, reminding us of the Trinity that St Patrick was so passionate about. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Good morning, let’s take a quick look at today’s challenge…

We invite you to begin this time of prayer by making the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
Today we’re going to focus on what we can DO! But let’s start my DO-ing the sign of the cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Today, let’s not think of fasting as something difficult or restrictive. Instead, let’s see it as an opportunity to DO something awesome with that time/money/energy we have saved!
Fantastic ideas 9T!
Chat with the people around you… What is something positive you can DO this Lent? If you have time could you DO something nice, quickly? If you have any paper or card in your room could you write a quick note for a friend or teacher right now? Or could you write a nice message on the whiteboard for the next class to read as they come in for period 1? Make sure you DO something positive today and throughout Lent!
We end with the sign of the cross, In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
