Almsgiving – 6th Form Prayer Resources
The Becket way word of the week – FORGIVENESS
Forgiveness means letting something go. This does not necessarily mean
- Forgetting what happened
- Having positive feelings towards the person who wronged you
- Excusing the person who wronged you and making excuses for you
Instead what it means is knowing that someone has done something wrong against you and voluntarily deciding not to get some sort of revenge. Letting the person know in some way that you don’t want revenge. Letting go negative feelings towards the person who wronged you – not bearing a grudge or inviting others to hate them as well. There is an increasing amount of research on the benefits of forgiveness for our psychological and physical health. We are more likely to have a better mood, lower blood pressure and lower levels of anger and more satisfaction with life if we are able to forgive rather than look for revenge (positive freedom)
- Share with your tutor group –Why is this important in how we do things at The Becket School? Developing of character?
- Incorporate it within your conversation with students during lesson or unstructured time.
- Include in any roll call that week.
This week’s prayer resources were planned by 12P- Thank you!

This week we are praying for…
- Those who work for charities
- The work of CAFOD
- Those who are on mission around the world
Please keep them in your prayers this week and don’t forget to add any suggestions for prayer intentions to the comments box below!

Art Competition! Deadline: Monday 24th March THIS MONDAY – PLEASE HAND IN

Good morning, welcome back everyone. Let’s take a quick look at today’s Lenten challenge…

Monday lunch time 12:30pm – 12:50pm – The Respect and Diversity Team are meeting in the chapel to plan culture week! Please come down if you want to be a part of it.
This week we are mixing it up a bit and starting with the “DO” activity, as there is something that we want you to do and get involved with this Lent and for the rest of the year…
We invite you to begin this time of prayer by making the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
You may have already noticed the new Emmanuel House donations box in the common room but what is it for?
Emmanuel House supports people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Nottingham. They have been operating from our day centre since 1976. They meet people’s basic human need. Alongside this, the outreach services provide mental health support and play a vital role in homelessness prevention. Their accommodation services, including the Winter Shelter, provide short-term emergency accommodation, as well as longer-term single-room accommodation.
Let’s watch this short video to learn a little more about Emmanuel House…
As we journey through Lent, a season of reflection, sacrifice, and giving, our Sixth Form students in 12P have come up with a wonderful way to support those in need. We are collecting clothes for Emmanuel House, a charity dedicated to helping the homeless and vulnerable in our community.
Lent is a time to think about how we can make a difference in the lives of others. By donating warm clothing, we can offer comfort and support to those who need it most. If you have any good-quality coats, jumpers, or other essential clothing items, please consider donating.
Let’s make this Lent not just a time of personal sacrifice but also of generosity. Your kindness can bring hope to someone in need.
You can find the donations box in the sixth form common room picture below!

Loving God,
Bless the work of Emmanuel House and all who seek to bring hope to those in need.
May their care and kindness be a sign of Your love,
And may we too open our hearts to serve and support others.
Amen.
We end with the sign of the cross, In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
Good morning, let’s take a quick look at today’s Lenten challenge…

We invite you to make the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
This week’s prayer resources have been created by the lovely 12P. They remembered a previous prayerful experience that involves studying and contemplating a piece of sacred artwork.
On today’s “see” day, we thought it would be a great opportunity to take part in something called Visuo Divina. Visuo Divina which means “sacred seeing.”
Like Lectio Divina, where we prayerfully reflect on Scripture, Visuo Divina invites us to reflect on an image, allowing God to speak to us through what we see.
Let’s take a look at which scripture 12P have chosen for us to reflect one…before you play the video, please prepare the room for a time of prayer. Put away any work or phones, dim the lights and get comfortable…
After the video, Take a moment to share some of the things you noticed in the image? What stood out to you? Did anything interest you or catch your attention that you might normally not notice?
Let us pray…
Lord, as we journey through Lent, teach us the joy of giving. Just as You took five loaves and two fish and fed the multitude, may we trust in Your abundance. Open our hearts to share what we have, knowing that in Your hands, even the smallest offering can bless many.
Help us to see those in need, to give with love, and to trust that You will multiply our kindness. May our generosity reflect Your endless grace, drawing us closer to You and to one another.
Amen.
We end our prayer with the sign of the cross,
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Good morning, let’s start the day by checking in with today’s Lenten challenge…

We invite you to make the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
During Lent, we are called to reflect on prayer, fasting and almsgiving, which all draw us closer to Jesus. The song “Give Me Jesus” by UPPERROOM (which we are going to play in a moment) reminds us that above all, Jesus is the greatest gift that we can receive. When we truly have Him in our hearts, we are filled with His love, grace, and selflessness—making it easier to give to others and live our fullest lives.
Jesus gave everything for us, even His life. When we ask for Jesus, we are asking for His heart—a heart that loves without limits and gives without expecting anything in return. This is what Lent is about: not just giving things up, but giving more of ourselves to God and to others.

Take a moment this morning to listen to the song and reflect.
In your prayer journals, we invite you to choose a line or phrase from the song that stands out to you and decorate or doodle around it.
Think about how you can make more room for Jesus in your life? How can you give more to others in Lent? And in doing so, you are giving to Jesus.
Write your thoughts in your prayer journal and ask Jesus to help you give as He gave.
Lord Jesus,
You taught us that whatever we do for the least of our brothers and sisters, we do for You.
In this season of Lent, open our hearts to give generously—our time, our love, and our resources—so that we may serve You in those in need.
May our giving be a sign of Your love in the world.
Amen.
We end with the sign of the cross, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Good morning, let’s take a quick look at today’s Lenten challenge…

We invite you to start with the sign of the cross. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Spend some time this morning thinking about what giving during Lent really means.
- What does giving mean to you? Is it always about money and material things, or can it be something more?
- Think about a time when someone gave something meaningful to you—how did it impact you?
Can you share some of your favourite and meaningful “gifts” you have received with the people around you in your form? Remember it doesn’t need to be something like a phone, perhaps its a phone call conversation, the time a sibling has given to help you or some kind and affirming words that have always stuck with you.
After sharing, watch this short video about the science of giving – please stop the video at 1:29….
Personal Reflection
As we look at how we can give to others this week, now is your opportunity to give something that is so easier to do, but that can have a big impact to those around you.
We would like to invite you to write a short message of affirmation on a piece of paper to someone in form, year group or member of staff. This message should only use kind and positive words and the aim to is brighten someone’s day by giving them a positive message.
You may reflect on someone who has been a good friend. A staff member who has given their time up to help you. Or a family member who is always there to support you and needs to be reminded that you are thankful for them.

Let us pray
Lord,
Let my words bring kindness, hope, and love.
May I speak with gentleness and encouragement,
Lifting others up as You lift me.
Amen.
We end with the sign of the cross, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
