New look Be Inspirational Site
We’ve got a new way of doing things on the Be Inspirational site! Lead and planned by you, we’ll now follow a pattern of different activates each day for you to make your own and ensure that all four senses are engaged in our prayer life.
We’re going to take all your feedback on board this week as we trial this week’s resources with the whole school and we’ll then begin with our new approach after Half Term.
Monday 20th May 11:50am
At 11:50am on Monday, the school bell will ring for prayer. Please join the teams link on Monday’s 11:50am Peace Prayer tab as we join Bishop Patrick and lots of other people pray for peace in response to the ongoing war and conflict in our world.
Year 9 Briars Retreat – 3rd – 7th June
Please make sure to return your behaviour contract and health consent forms to the chapel or the school office if you haven’t already! Remember that the trip is leaving after school on the first Monday back, so if you have any questions about the retreat, you need to ask them before half term. Make sure you do your packing over half term!
Pentecost Celebration of the Word Video
Before starting this week’s Celebration of the Word, please make sure that the room is quiet, there are no distractions and that our focus is on this time of Collective Worship together, just as it would be if we were sat in the hall or chapel.

Pentecost
Welcome back! We begin with the Sign of the Cross
On Sunday, the Church celebrated the Solemnity of Pentecost.
Pentecost is where we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit. At Pentecost the Holy Spirit came down upon the apostles in the form of tongues of fire, and they were filled with the Spirit and began to speak in other languages. This day is often referred to as the Church’s birthday as it marks the moment when the disciples were inspired to go out into the world to share the good news, and to bring people to Christ.
Before we watch our word of the week video, let’s listen to and/or read along with the first reading that was shared at Mass on Pentecost Sunday.
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles,
When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language. And they were amazed and astonished, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language?… All were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” But others mocking said, “They are filled with new wine.”

Good morning, let us begin with the Sign of the Cross
We have chosen a Meditation resource to listen to today to engage our hearing senses.
Before starting the meditation, make sure that you are sitting comfortably and sensibly.
Make sure that distractions are put away and that there is nothing in your hands.
You may wish to turn the lights off, close your eyes, or rest your head on the desk.
Make sure that you are not distracting the people around you and the atmosphere remains calm and silent as there will be other people in the room trying to pray and meditate.
Let us pray,
Heavenly Father, we pray that we will open our hearts to be filled with the gifts of the Holy Spirit as the disciples were on the day of Pentecost. We pray that we will have the courage and wisdom to spread the Good News to carry out the mission that Jesus gave us, his disciples. We pray that we will not be afraid in times of challenge along the way but that we will stand united and firm in our faith and mission.
Amen.

Good morning, let us begin with the Sign of the Cross
As we have heard this week, the feast of Pentecost is known as the Birthday of the Church because from this event and after Peter’s homily, over 3,000 people were baptised and the news of Jesus began to spread.
In your prayer journals, we would like you to think about how you can celebrate the Birthday of the Church!
You could make:
- a Birthday card,
- write a Birthday message or prayer for the Church
- draw a cake and design its decoration and candles linked to the Church and the apostles
- decorate a Birthday poster for the Church’s Birthday
- Plan a birthday party for your local church
- You may even wish to make a Birthday invitation to encourage others to visit our Churches!
As you decorate your prayer journals, we would like you to think about the following:
How do you already live out the mission that Jesus left us with?
Which of the gifts of the spirit do you feel you need more of? Wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and awe and wonder.
When did you last visit a Church? If it has been a while, could you ask your family about attending a local weekend Mass?
Once you have had time to think in the quiet, play the song “Burning in my soul” below. Some of the Becket Confirmation group would love to sing this song in a future Celebration of the Word so now is a great time to get familiar with the lyrics!
Resource to be collected from the staff room
Good morning, let us begin with the Sign of the Cross
Each form should have a set of red, yellow and orange bunting (these can be collected from the staff room). We would like each bunting flag to be shared throughout the form group and for each flag to be decorated.
The bunting will be stapled together or hung with string (you can borrow some from the chapel) and then we would like each form to display them on their form prayer board.
The flags can be decorated with symbols of the Holy Spirit, fancy lettering and the gifts of the holy spirit.
Perhaps, with each gift, you could write how this gift inspires your actions and words.

- Understanding,
- Counsel (Right judgement),
- Fortitude (courage),
- Knowledge,
- Piety (reverence),
- Fear of the Lord (Awe and Wonder)

Give us the courage to say yes to your Holy Spirit and be true friends and followers of Your Son, Jesus. Amen.

The students of the Becket School and other young people who received the Sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday in Holy Spirit Church.
