Just to remind you – we’ve got a new way of doing things on the Be Inspirational site! Lead and planned by you, we’ll now follow a pattern of different activates each day for you to make your own and ensure that all four senses are engaged in our prayer life.

The word of the week is Eucharist

Welcome back! We remember that we meet in the presence of God by making the Sign of the Cross

On Sunday, we celebrated the Solemnity of Corpus Christi. Corpus Christi is a special feast in the Catholic Church that celebrates the Eucharist, which is the body and blood of Jesus Christ. This celebration is very important because it’s all about remembering that Jesus is truly present with us in a unique way when we celebrate Mass and in our Tabernacle in our Chapel.

What’s the Eucharist?

Jesus had a final meal with his friends before he died. During that meal, he took bread and wine and said they were his body and blood. Catholics believe that during the consecration, the bread and wine actually become Jesus’ body and blood and when we share it together we are in “Communion” with him.

“Corpus Christi” means “Body of Christ” in Latin and “Eucharist” means thanksgiving so this week we’re going to give thanks for the blessings in our lives and think about how we can spend time getting closer to Jesus.

Have someone read this scripture out loud, it’s a short excerpt from the Last Supper where Jesus broke bread with his disciples.

It’s been copied and adapted many times mainly because it tells such a rich story and tells us so much about the different feelings, thoughts and people who gathered round the table.

If you have time then take out your prayer journals and draw or write who’d be around your table, who’d be sitting where and why?

Jesus said in Luke’s Gospel that he had longed to share the meal with his disciples because they were his best friends and those he loved. Share with the people around you who you have chosen and why they are important to you.

Let’s spend a moment giving thanks for those who we love and who love us in our lives. Let’s make an effort to break bread with them soon.

We remember that God is with us throughout our day as we make the Sign of the Cross

Good morning, let us begin with the Sign of the Cross

During Mass, and in our Chapel we are in the presence of Christ. We believe that the Eucharist is the real presence of Christ and because of that we should always treat times like Mass and times in the chapel with great respect.

The Eucharist is also a time to get closer to Jesus.

Do we think about how Jesus and the disciples would have felt at that last supper – do we ever feel like they did?

Have a listen to it as a form and think about how this could be a song about the Last Supper.

Spend some time in discussion (first in pairs/threes and then as a form) afterwards and think about:

Which lines / words made you think about the events of Jesus and his disciples?

Which lines / words could give you an insight into how they were feeling?

Have you ever felt like that or did the song remind you of any situations you’ve experienced?

Lord, help us to grow close to you. Help us to understand that you know how we feel and that we can turn to you when we face challenges in our own lives.

Good morning, let us begin with the Sign of the Cross

Sharing a meal is a foundation part of our faith – as it is for many faiths around the world. Jesus chose to break bread with his disciples and this action – eating together as a family – is central to who we are.

When we break bread we remember all those in our world who are in need, especially those without food and those who are suffering.

Recently you may have heard about a place called Raffa. It’s a place in Gaza and it’s seen attacks and fighting in recent days. It’s a place where many refugees are trying to find safety.

After you’ve watched the video – think about the last meal you had and how it must be for those families in Raffa and across Gaza at the moment.

Spend a few moments in silence to think about and pray for those affected by the war in palestine. You might want to bow your heads and close your eyes to help you focus.

If there is time, share with those around you what you think about the situation and who we need to pray for at the moment.

During Mass we pray a prayer for peace – let’s pray that together now.

Lord Jesus Christ, who said to Your Apostles: Peace I leave you, my peace I give you; look not on our sins, but on the faith of Your Church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with Your will. Who live and reign for ever and ever. Amen.

This week, following the feast of Corpus Christi, we have thought a lot about Mass, and this morning we’re going to ask you: how we can understand Mass a bit better and how can we make Mass a more inclusive experience for all when we celebrate together.

First – lets think back on our week…

We heard about Jesus at the Last Supper – that’s what we remember and recreate every time we have Mass.

Then, we thought about how Jesus and his disciples must have felt and we used music and song to express those feelings and emotions. We do the same when we sing hymns and psalms as part of our celebrations.

Then we prayed for our brothers and sisters in Christ around the world who are suffering and united with them in prayer, just as we do during our celebration of Mass.

This week we’ve tried to look at some of the meaning behind Mass but we know there will still be some questions.

First, we’d like you to decide on one question you have as a form about the Catholic Mass. Write your question on a poster (decorate it with signs and symbols of the Mass to help us spot it) and place it in your form room window. We’ll come round and film the best questions and then answer them over the next few weeks to help us to get to know Mass a bit better.

Secondly, we’d like you to think about some of the things you’d like our Masses to be, some rules to help them to be meaningful and special for everyone.
