The Becket way word of the week – Knowledge is power
Your teachers have worked very hard in creating a curriculum that contains all of the core knowledge that you need to be successful, both in assessments and exams but also in life once you leave the Becket. It is important that you work hard in remembering the core knowledge in all of your subjects by reviewing it again and again and testing yourself. The more you do this the more likely you will be able to commit it to your long-term memory and the easier you will find to learn more stuff! We encourage you to develop your thirst for knowledge and engage in your own learning outside of school such as watching documentaries, reading fiction and non-fiction, watching the news, listening to podcasts, visiting museums or new places etc.

On Monday – the year 9 Briars group should have dropped off their suitcases in the chapel on their way into school via the chapel fire exits. The group will be attending normal lessons all day on Monday. After period 5, students need to come down to the chapel to prepare for departures. School bags can be left in lockers. Please see the list of students emailed by Ruth.
On Monday, there is a Respect and Diversity and News and Communications Team meeting at 12:30. Please drop by and you can have your lunch after the meeting! We are planning and filming content for culture week which is next week!

As you know, we are celebrating the Jubilee Year in the Catholic church, themed “Pilgrims of Hope”. To help us to celebrate this theme, in this week’s communications week, our News and Communications Team are proud to share the launch of our new podcast “Voices of Hope”.

Communication is more than just talking—it’s how we share our ideas, beliefs, and love with others. In our world today, digital media, social platforms, and technology give us powerful ways to reach people across the globe.
One young person who understood the power of communication was Blessed Carlo Acutis. As we heard from Fr John in yesterday’s podcast, Carlo was a teenager who loved computers, video games, and coding—but above all, he loved Jesus in the Eucharist.
Carlo used his digital skills to create a website that shared and communicated Eucharistic miracles with the world. He believed the internet wasn’t just for entertainment—it could be a tool for evangelisation and sharing the truth of God’s love.

We’ve been reflecting on what good communication looks like and our responsibility as Christians to communicate the Good News, but now it’s time to really put communication into practise and give it a go ourselves!
Today we are going to play a game of Charades and / or Articulate.
Round 1: Catholic Charades
How to Play:
One student comes to the front and is shown or told a word or phrase from the list (staff will need to freeze the screen or remove the list from appearing to the audience)
Without speaking, the student needs to act out what they have seen or heard until someone guesses correctly (by putting your hand up!)
Perhaps you could split your form into teams of rows or sides of the room and the first team member to guess correctly wins a point.

No rhyming, spelling, or using parts of the word!
Split the room in half into two teams and each team has one minute to guess as many words or phrases as possible. How many points can you get in 1 minute?!
