The Becket Focus of the Week – There is no such thing as snitching at The Becket School
In order to maintain a great community, students MUST feel able to report unkindness, theft, bullying, racism, sexism etc. Calling someone a ‘snitch’ or similar absolutely undermines people’s confidence in disclosing problems. They are heroes, not snitches. If you are caught using the word snitch you will have a day in Reflection Centre.
- Share with your tutor group – Why this is important at The Becket School?
- Incorporate it within your conversation with students during lesson or unstructured time.
- Include in any roll call that week.

This week we are praying for:
- Prayer for Unity in Diversity
Lord, we thank You for the beautiful diversity of our school community. We pray that You guide us to embrace our differences and foster unity among us. May we always see Your image reflected in each person, regardless of their background, culture, or beliefs. Help us to appreciate and learn from one another, building a stronger, more loving community. - Prayer for Respect and Understanding
Heavenly Father, we ask You to bless our school with hearts that are open to understanding and respecting one another’s differences. Teach us to listen with compassion and to speak with kindness. May we always seek to build bridges of understanding and remove any barriers of prejudice, so that all students feel valued and accepted.
Please keep them in your prayers this week and don’t forget to add any suggestions for prayer intentions to the comments box below!

Celebrating our Diversity – We would like to invite you to wear clothing from your culture or a football t-shirt from that area. Also remember to bring in food from your culture.
Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th – Cake Sales in the Atrium
As we heard in last week’s resources, students – Louis and Martin are hosting cake sales on Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th in the atrium. Their uncle recently built a school called ‘Notre-Dame de L’Esperance’ (Our Lady of Hope) from scratch using his own money for children in his neighbourhood who didn’t have access to education. It is an inspiration to us all as he does not make any profit from it, in fact he is using his pension money to fund it. Please donate cakes to this worthy cause and make sure you bring some money to treat yourself to some tasty goodies!
Thursday Heads of House Competition – Valentines Special
On Thursday (the last day before half-term), our Heads of House Competitions return for one lunchtime only – a Valentine’s special edition!
Come along to spectate and show your support for your Heads of House and House Captains as they go head-to-head at 12:50 PM in the hall during Thursday lunchtime!
Thursday – House Colours!
To add to our house festivities this week, on Thursday, you are allowed to swap an item of uniform for an item of clothing in your house colour or, you may accessorise your uniform with your house colours! (E.g. tie, trainers, cardigan, hair accessories etc.) You must, however, still wear your blazer. Bring your flags, posters and house colours to the hall on Thursday lunchtime at 12:50!
World Book Day Book Cover Competition
World book day is approaching – see the book cover competition poster to get involved and be in with the chance to win a Waterstones voucher… and every entry receives positive points! Enter before 6th March!
Passio – Liturgical Drama Performance
Passio is open to all year groups and will be presented on the last day before the Easter Holidays as our Lenten celebration.
Day Trip “Flame!” (Y10- 13)
We are excited to share that students at The Becket School in years 10, 11, 12 and 13 have the opportunity to attend the UK’s largest National Catholic Youth Event of 2025 “Flame” in the SS Wembley Arena on Saturday 15th March 2025. At this event, Wembley arena will be filled with thousands of young people from across the country, receiving faith-filled music, entertainment and talks from inspiring speakers and musicians in an atmosphere full of joy. This year’s special guests include Bear Grylls, MOBO award winning Guvna B and “The Voice’s” semi finalist in 2021 – Adenike Adewale.
Parents have been emailed home with a form to express interest for tickets. PLEASE SEE RUTH/JOE in the chapel if you are interested ASAP!
The cost of the trip to “Flame” is £20! This cost includes coach travel and the event ticket, but not spending money or a packed lunch. We will be traveling by coach with other students and staff from the Our Lady of Lourdes CMAT and everyone will be departing from The Becket School early in the morning on Saturday 15th March and return that evening.

Today is Bernadette House Mass and the feast of our Lady of Lourdes! Happy feast day to our family of schools in the Our Lady of Lourdes Trust!
Let’s hear 10E explain to us the importance of what happened in Lourdes and hear about some of the incredible miracles that show all people can receive blessings and love from God.
On the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, let us pray the OLOL Trust prayer together…
God Our Father,
Give us strength so that, guided by Our Lady’s example,
we can have the courage to say yes to you.
Help us to love like she loves, have faith like she has
and follow Jesus’ example in all that we do.
Inspire in all of us a sense of togetherness, so that we can use

On Sunday, the Church marked Racial Justice Sunday, a time to reflect on the importance of fairness, inclusion, and respect for all people, regardless of background or ethnicity. This year’s theme, ‘Coat of Many Colours’, was chosen to mark the 30th anniversary of Racial Justice Sunday, symbolising the richness of diversity and the beauty of different cultures coming together in unity.
This week, we are reminded how important it is to celebrate the many different backgrounds, experiences, and identities that make up our school community and that make it so much more beautiful! Diversity is not just about recognising our differences but embracing them as a strength and celebrating them.
To help us reflect on this, and as mentioned in our House Celebrations of the Word, we are going to take part in an activity that brings this theme to life – we need your help in creating a ‘Coat of Many Colours’ display to celebrate the diversity that exists in our school community!
Just as the theme reminds us that each person’s identity is valuable, our display will show that when we come together, we form something even more powerful and beautiful.
- Each student (and staff member) will receive a piece of plain paper to decorate.
- Think about your identity—your culture, heritage, interests, skills, gifts or experiences—and how they shape who you are.
- Using pens and pencils decorate your piece of paper in a way that represents you. This could include:
- Symbols, colours, traditions or flags from your heritage
- Words or quotes that inspire you
- Drawings of hobbies, values, gifts, or talents that you have
- Once completed, paper clip your pieces of paper (label them with your form) or put them in a plastic wallet and drop them off in the chapel or in Ruth/Joe’s staffroom tray to help us create our ‘Coat of Many Colours’ display as a sign of our unity in diversity.
