We are in the fourth week of Ordinary Time
Leadership in terms of our faith means to serve others and to inspire others to make a positive difference in the world. Being a leader means to be a witness to your faith and to present yourself as a role model for others so that they can grow in their faith too.

Next week our Celebration of the Word will be live streamed on Wednesday. Please head to your form rooms on Monday 5th Feb instead of roll call.
Chess Tournament
Please see Mr Goligher in A6 if you are interested in joining. The tournament will be played on Wednesday lunchtimes in A6 (or whenever the two people paired would like to play in their own time where appropriate). Staff are more than welcome to join as well. It will be free entry and there will be a prize for the winner!

You can complete this google form as a staff member (staff voice) and on behalf of your tutor group (student voice)
You can either submit the form electronically with ideas shared by your form or you can ask students to write the questions and their answers on post-it notes or pieces of paper – but make sure that these are handed into Ruth!
Becket Way Focus
SLANT is one of our routines at The Becket. It helps us remember to Sit up, Listen, Ask questions, Never interrupt and Track the speaker. SLANT is better for everyone’s learning as it ensures that our classroom environment is free from distractions that may overload our working memory and lead to us making learning mistakes. It also shows good respect for the teacher and other students in the classroom and helps us develop positive body language and habits of successful people.
- Share with your tutor group – What does the word mean? Why is it important to how we do things at The Becket? How does SLANT support us being successful in our learning?
- Incorporate it within your conversation with students during lesson or unstructured time.
- Include in any roll call that week.

Day 1 – See
We invite you to remember who leads our community by making the Sign of the Cross.
Take a few moments to watch this week’s word of the week on Leadership…
There will be lots of ways to see leadership this week around school – you may even see it in yourself! As we journey through this theme, let’s look each day at those who lead and how they do it. Do they lead like Jesus did?
Lord, help people to see Jesus in the way we lead this week.
We finish with the Sign of the Cross.
Day 2 – Hear
We invite you to join us in remembering the example of leadership we should follow by making the Sign of the Cross.
Looking back at our Scripture this week, we see that Jesus imagines a different kind of leadership. Not one that enjoys power over people, but one that serves and makes themselves humble.
If there is time, read the scripture again, think about our theme of the week and then listen to the spoken word audio.
What does it make you feel? Does it describe the kind of leaders you see?
As you listen write down what words or phrases stand out for you. What does it make you think about the kind of leader you are? If you have time take the opportunity to share what people have written.
Lord, help us to lead like you did, and build the world we want to see. Amen.
Let us offer our prayers and work today to God as we make the Sign of the Cross.
Day Three – Think
We invite you to begin our prayer by reminding ourselves that Christ is present in all that we do by making the Sign of the Cross.
This week we’ve been thinking about leadership, what it means, and how we can show it. We are all called to be leaders but as we’ve seen and heard in our scripture and in our reflections this week, leadership won’t look the same for everyone.
In a moment we’re going to spend some time in silence – to help us think and pray about how we can be the leaders the world needs today.
Take some time to make sure the room is free from distraction. If it helps bow your head or close your eyes and think about this question:
Where in your life are you called to be a leader and who are you called to lead?
When your ready try and have one minute of silent prayer and then, if time allows, and you want to you can share any thoughts and prayers out loud.
Lord, help us to be good leaders. Amen

Day 4 – Do
We begin by inviting everyone to remember what Jesus did for us by making the Sign of the Cross.
This week we’ve thought a lot about what it means to be a leader. We’ve thought about how Jesus inspires us to lead differently and we’ve also thought about the places in our lives that we are leaders already.
Today you’re going to lead by example and decide as a form one action you can take around school to lead like Jesus and create the kind of world that we want to see.
Spend a few moments talking with a partner about what actions your form could take. You could be the form that always holds the door open for other people, the form that picks up rubbish when you see it, the form that always gives a compliment when you see someone, or even the form that takes a moment each day to pray for someone in need in the school community.
When you’ve decided and voted on what your form can do to lead others, create a contract that will go in your form room door and make sure you all sign it to show you’re committed to leading others around school.
The contract will be a reminder each and every time you come to form ( and when someone visits your form room) that we can all be leaders if we live like Jesus, serve others and try to make the world a better place.
Lord, help us to lead by example and serve others like you did. Amen

Pope Francis’ prayer intention for January is: For the gift of diversity in the Church.
We pray for year 12 who are out on Work Experience this week.
