“Outreach” – Whole School Resources
We are in the 24th week of Ordinary Time.
The Word of the Week is “Outreach”
Outreach is the act of reaching out to others with the message of God’s love. It is about sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with those who do not know him. Outreach can take many forms, but it always involves going out to those who are most in need, or who feel left out and sharing God’s love with them.
This week’s Prayer Intentions are…
- Pope Leo, who celebrated his Birthday on Monday 14th
- Peace, harmony and patience for all communities experiencing conflict
Please keep these intentions in your prayers this week, and don’t forget to add any suggestions for prayer intentions in the comments box below.

Gather
Every prayer time begins with us gathering together.
To help us focus, you might dim the lights, light a candle if you have one, or move a cross or religious object to the front to focus on. As students are entering the room this morning, you might like to play this instrumental music to help create a calm atmosphere.
Good morning, we invite you begin our time of prayer today by making the sign of the cross…
In the name of the Father and of Son and of the Holy Spirit Amen
This week, our word of the week is Outreach. Outreach means reaching out beyond ourselves to support, connect with, and make a positive difference in the lives of others. Every day, as part of our Becket School community, we are called to look outward, supporting local causes, helping those in need, and extending friendship and care to people both inside and outside our school gates.
This morning, we are going to watch the video linked below to reflect on how our community comes together, and we want you to get thinking about how you can practice outreach this term:
- Discuss in pairs or small groups:
- What does outreach look like in our daily lives at school?
- Who in our local or wider community might be in need of our support, kindness, or prayers this term?
- Personal Action:
- Write down one practical action you can commit to this week that demonstrates outreach.
- Examples: Volunteering for a school charity drive, including someone who looks lonely during lunch, or sending a note of encouragement to someone in the community.
Closing Prayer
Let us pray:
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Dear Lord,
Thank you for bringing us together as the Becket School community.
Inspire us this week to embody the true meaning of outreach.
Open our heart to notice those who need help,
Open our hands to serve our neighbors generously,
And open our minds to seek ways to bring Your love, hope, and kindness into the wider world.
Help us to support one another and lead by example in all that we do.
Amen.
We end by inviting you to make the sign the cross
In the name of the Father and of Son and of the Holy Spirit Amen
The Season of Creation
Good morning, we invite you begin our time of prayer today by making the sign of the cross…

Today we are going to head back to OLOL’s new podcast “Nun the Wiser” to hear some of episode 4 which is based on our word of the week “Outreach”.
The episode is 22 mins long so watch whatever you can manage in form time, feel free to pause and discuss your own ideas and experiences as you go through it (there are some discussion questions below). You may have a chance to resume playing it in a later form time or when you’re back at home with your family if you’re interested!
Here are some questions you could chat about in your form inspired by some of the discussions in the podcast:
Can any of you remember the Briars outreach tent from COVID times? Our current year 13s had a visit from it at The Becket when they were in Year 7!
What is your favourite primary school hymn that you would class as a banger?
Do you have any examples of people who are positive influencers and good at “outreach”?
In this modern day, what are some of the ways we can outreach and share the love of Jesus with others?
Let us pray..
Lord Jesus,
Help us to be people of outreach.
Give us the courage to include others, the kindness to lift people up, and the confidence to share Your love through our words and actions.
May we be positive influences in our school and show Your light to everyone we meet.
Amen.
Let us finish by remembering God is with us throughout this day by inviting you to make the sign the cross…
In the name of the Father and of Son and of the Holy Spirit Amen

Outreach is about reaching beyond ourselves to share love and hope with others. Jesus constantly reached out to people, welcoming those who felt left out and encouraging others to live with love and compassion.
As we prepare for the release of this year’s school music video, 8R would like you to think about how music can spread a positive message and bring people together.
Think Activity
Choose the tune of a hymn or one of your form’s favourite songs.
Working in small groups, pairs or as a whole form, rewrite a verse, chorus or both using the theme of Outreach.
Think about:
- How can we share God’s love with others?
- How can we include people who feel left out?
- What positive message would you want others to hear?
- How can we help people learn about Jesus through our words and actions?
When you have finished, share your lyrics with the rest of the form. Don’t forget to leave your song choice and your new lyrics in the comments below.
Older forms may wish to continue listening to this week’s Nun the Wiser podcast episode on the HEAR tab.
Let us pray…
Loving God,
Thank You for the gift of music, creativity and community.
Help us to use our talents to spread joy, kindness and hope. May our words and actions help others to see Your love and inspire those around us to follow the example of Jesus.
Guide us this week as we reach out to others and build a community where everyone feels welcome.
Amen.
Let us finish by remembering God is with us throughout this day by inviting you to make the sign the cross…
