“Rosary” – Whole School Resources
We are in the 27th week of Ordinary Time.
The Word of the Week is “Rosary”
The Rosary is a prayer that we can all use to meditate on the life of Jesus Christ. It is a powerful tool for prayer and spiritual growth through the intercession of Mary our mother. The Rosary can help us to grow in our faith, to deepen our relationship with God, and to find peace and comfort in difficult times
This week’s Prayer Intentions are…
During the month of October, dedicated to Our Lady, we lift our hearts in prayer to honour Mary, the Mother of Jesus, seeking her guidance, intercession, and maternal care for our school community.
Thanksgiving for Mary’s unwavering “yes” to God, and praying for her continued protection, guidance, and prayers over our students, families, and staff.
Compassion and Faithfulness: Praying that we may follow Mary’s example of deep faith, humility, and compassion, opening our hearts to God’s will in our daily lives.
Peace and Unity: Seeking Our Lady’s intercession for peace in our world and healing in our communities, that under her cloak of love we may walk together in unity, respect, and mutual support.
Prayer for All Mothers. Asking for Our Lady’s special comfort, grace, and strength for all mothers; especially those expecting, new mothers, those who have suffered the heartbreak of losing a child, and those who struggle with fertility and bearing children.
Please keep these intentions in your prayers this week, and don’t forget to add any suggestions for prayer intentions in the comments box below.

Gather
Every prayer time begins with us gathering together.
To help us focus, you might dim the lights, light a candle if you have one, or move a cross or religious object to the front to focus on. As students are entering the room this morning, you might like to play this instrumental music to help create a calm atmosphere.

Welcome everyone to a new week. Our Word of the Week is Rosary.
The Rosary is one of the most cherished and powerful traditions in the Catholic Church. It is a meditative prayer that allows us to reflect on the key moments in the lives of Jesus and Mary.
As part of our Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Multi-Academy Trust, Mary holds a deeply special place in our school family. Our Trust is named in honour of Our Lady, who appeared to Saint Bernadette at Lourdes, reminding us of Mary’s love, care, and constant intercession for us.
October is traditionally celebrated throughout the Church as the Month of the Holy Rosary (and the Month of Mary). It is a time when we are invited to slow down, look to Mary’s example of faith and trust in God, and join together in prayer.
Watch this week’s video reflection produced by 9T to find more about the rosary:
After watching the video, take a few moments as a form to discuss and reflect together:
- Discussion: Why do you think having a set prayer like the Rosary can help us when we are going through busy, stressful, or challenging times?
- Action: Think of one person, situation, or cause in our world today (e.g., peace, your family, or someone who is unwell) that you would like to offer a prayer for this week. Keep that intention in your heart for our final prayer.
Prayer
Let us gather our thoughts and sit in a moment of quiet reflection.
(Take 15–30 seconds of silence to bring your own personal intentions and prayers before God.)
Together, let us ask Mary to pray with us and for us as we say:
Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
We end by inviting you to make the sign the cross
In the name of the Father and of Son and of the Holy Spirit Amen

Today for Hear Day, we are turning our focus to listening, both listening to God in prayer and truly hearing one another. As a form group, we are going to pray a Decade of the Rosary together.
Praying the Rosary helps us bring our own lives, our community, and the wider world before God. Today, 12 individual students will lead us, one for each prayer of the decade. As each prayer is led, listen carefully and focus your heart on the specific intention given for that prayer.

To end our Hear Day session, let us gather all the individual intentions we have shared into one final prayer together.

Today for Think Day, we are taking time to stop, reflect, and think deeply about how we pray.
Sometimes, repeating prayers like the Rosary can feel routine or distracting. Today, we are exploring how the Rosary is not just about reciting words, it is a powerful tool to step back, enter into quiet stillness, and meditate on real moments from the life of Jesus and Mary
Watch this short reflection by Fr. Mike Schmitz from Ascension Presents on different ways we can pray the Rosary without getting bogged down:
In the video, Fr. Mike mentions that each Mystery of the Rosary is like a short snapshot or scene from Jesus’ life.
Task: Read through the four sets of Mysteries below as a form group. Each student should choose one Mystery that speaks to them today and focus on its story.
The Joyful Mysteries (Moments of New Beginnings & Hope)
The Annunciation: Mary says “yes” to God’s plan to bring Jesus into the world.
The Visitation: Mary visits her cousin Elizabeth to support and share joy with her.
The Nativity: Jesus is born in Bethlehem.
The Presentation: Mary and Joseph present baby Jesus in the Temple.
The Finding in the Temple: The 12-year-old Jesus is found teaching in the Temple in Jerusalem.
The Luminous Mysteries (Moments of Light & Ministry)
The Baptism in the Jordan: Jesus is baptized by John and begins his public mission.
The Wedding at Cana: Jesus performs his first miracle, turning water into wine.
The Proclamation of the Kingdom: Jesus teaches about love, forgiveness, and peace.
The Transfiguration: Jesus reveals his divine glory to his closest disciples on the mountain.
The Institution of the Eucharist: Jesus shares the Last Supper with his friends.
The Sorrowful Mysteries (Moments of Courage & Sacrifice)
The Agony in the Garden: Jesus prays in the garden when he feels afraid and burdened.
The Scourging at the Pillar: Jesus endures physical pain and suffering.
The Crowning with Thorns: Jesus is mocked and treated unfairly by others.
The Carrying of the Cross: Jesus carries his heavy cross with perseverance.
The Crucifixion: Jesus dies on the cross out of ultimate love for humanity.
The Glorious Mysteries (Moments of Victory & Eternal Life)
The Resurrection: Jesus rises from the dead on Easter Sunday.
The Ascension: Jesus returns to Heaven to prepare a place for us.
The Descent of the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit comes to give the disciples wisdom and courage.
The Assumption: Mary is taken up into Heaven at the end of her earthly life.
The Coronation of Mary: Mary is crowned Queen of Heaven, guiding us with her prayers.

Today for Do Day, we are taking our prayer and putting it to actions.
When we pray the Rosary, we aren’t just reciting words in our heads. We are praying as a whole community, using our voices, our hearts, and today, our physical movement. By creating a bodily action for the words of the Hail Mary, we turn our prayer into a “Living Rosary” that keeps us engaged, focused, and moving together.
Form Time Activity: Build & Pray the “Living Rosary”
Your form group will create a sequence of actions for the Hail Mary and then use them to pray together.
Step 1: Assign Words & Actions
Look at the key words/phrases of the Hail Mary below. Assign different students (or small groups/pairs) in the room to come up with a simple, respectful physical gesture or movement for their word/phrase.
- “Hail” → (e.g., A gentle wave or hand raised in greeting)
- “Mary” → (e.g., Hands folded over the heart)
- “Full of grace” → (e.g., Opening arms wide to receive)
- “The Lord is with thee” → (e.g., Reaching both hands upward)
- “Blessed art thou amongst women” → (e.g., A respectful bow of the head)
- “And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus” → (e.g., Cupping hands together near the chest)
- “Holy Mary, Mother of God” → (e.g., Placing a hand over the shoulder of the person next to you)
- “Pray for us sinners” → (e.g., Joining palms together in traditional prayer)
- “Now” → (e.g., Stamping one foot firmly on the ground to mark the present moment)
- “And at the hour of our death” → (e.g., Looking upward with open palms)
- “Amen” → (e.g., Everyone making the Sign of the Cross together)
Step 2: Practice the Flow (2 minutes)
Run through the sequence once as a form group so everyone learns each other’s actions. As each word or phrase is spoken out loud, the assigned student performs their action, and the rest of the form follows along.
Closing Prayer: Active Decade of the Rosary
To close our session, stand together in a circle or around the form room.
We will pray a Decade of the Rosary (1 Our Father, 10 Hail Marys, 1 Glory Be). For each of the 10 Hail Marys, perform your group’s sequence of actions as you speak the words together.
- Our Father (Prayed aloud together while standing in silence)
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
- 10 Hail Marys (Prayed aloud while performing your student-created movements)
Hail, Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
- Glory Be (Prayed aloud together with a bow)
Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now,
and ever shall be,
world without end.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
