We are in the 4th week of Lent and the word of the week is Sacrifice
This week’s Prayer Intentions
- We pray for all of Year 11 who are completing their mock exams.
- We pray for Patrick house and everyone of Irish heritage as we celebrate the patron of Ireland on Tuesday – Saint Patrick!
- We pray for all carpenters and the DT department as we celebrate the feast of St Joseph on Thursday!

Celebration of the Word and Catholic Life Rota
CoTW will be virtual this week and available to view on Be inspirational from Wednesday. Please make sure to refresh the resources each morning.
Patrick House
- There is a rehearsal for all Patrick readers and offertory bringers during Monday form time
- 8P will be decorating the chapel for Patrick’s house Mass during Monday Becket Reads
Monday – The chapel will be open during break and lunchtime.
B6 will be open Monday lunchtime with Ellie in 6th form for some scripture, discussion and journaling, all are welcome and you can bring your lunch with you!
Tuesday – Patrick House Mass is taking place during period 1 on Tuesday. Patrick forms will be brought down to the hall to line up at the end of Tuesday form time.
Wednesday – The chapel will be open during break and lunchtime.
Thursday lunchtime – 7P and 7T are hosting a cake sale for CAFOD! Come and show your support in the atrium! (poster below)
Friday – The chapel will be open during break and lunchtime.
Our clergy are very busy and unfortunately it is likely we will need to reschedule our Reconciliation morning which was due to happen on Friday morning. Apologies to everyone who was interested. We will keep you updated on a new date or if anyone becomes available to help us on Friday. Please remember that there are many churches that offer Reconciliation on Saturday morning or before Sunday Mass if you would like to go during Lent.
Becket Hydrates!
Easter raffle tickets will be available to buy in Tutor time and lunchtime in the Atrium starting on Monday 16th March to raise money towards the Water Fountain rental costs.
50p per ticket or a strip of 5 for £1. Three prizes to win including the hamper pictured as first prize. Two smaller eggs also up for grabs.
Look out for the Student Council members in Tutor time to buy your tickets, bring your cash! Draw on the last day of term. Good luck!

Each week, one form will conduct a litter pick during one Becket reads that week.
Your tutor will decide which Becket reads day to do the litter picking in. Your tutors will only need to supervise.
- You will be in groups of 3 max (no groups of 1).
- You will only litter pick outdoors on school site.
- Per group, you will be given 1 litter grabber, 1 bin bag and 1 pair of gloves. The person holding the bag will wear the gloves.
- Equipment is to be collected from B19 at the start of Becket reads after the register.
- Equipment is to be handed in at the end of Becket reads in B19 on the bell for 10:25.
- Bin bags with litter in are to be put in the large main rubbish bins outside the atrium.
- Health and safety:
- No picking up of rubbish with your hands (even if wearing gloves), use the grabbers only.
- No glass or sharp objects are to be picked up (even if with the grabber).
Search for the Light – Briars Open Retreat – Y10-13
This exciting Easter retreat at The Briars is open to all young people who are in Year 10 to 13 and will take place from the 2nd – 5th April 2026 – this retreat is not run by school and takes place during the Easter holidays.
The retreat is £55 per person. There will be some bursaries available through the St Francis of Assisi fund. There will also be lifts available from our local train station Ambergate for those young people relying on the train for transport.

We are now in the 4th week of Lent – which means we’re just over halfway through our Lenten journey!
Before we learn more about this week’s theme, let’s do a quick Lenten check‑in:
- How is everyone finding Lent so far?
- Did anyone give anything up this year? Are you finding your Lenten promises challenging?
- How have you been more giving this Lent?
- And how might you give a little more? (Hopefully the CAFOD boxes and our Give & Gift appeal will help inspire ways to give this Lent!)
And remember, if you haven’t quite kept up with your Lenten challenge, don’t worry. Lent isn’t about perfection; it’s about trying our best. We still have three weeks left, plenty of time to reset and refocus!

On Sunday, we celebrated Laetare Sunday, the halfway point of Lent. On this day (along with one other day in Advent before Christmas) the Church’s liturgical colour changes to rose (pink) as a sign of joy, because Easter is getting ever closer.
Laetare Sunday also falls on Mothering Sunday. So today, we are going to offer a prayer for all mothers and mother-like figures in our lives and around the world – those who make sacrifices for us as they love, guide, and strengthen us.
Loving God,
We thank you for all those who mother us with love, patience and care. Today we pray for all
Mothers, grandmothers, and godmothers
Step-mothers and foster mothers
Mother figures who guide and support us
Mothers who have died and those who are grieving their mothers
Mothers-to-be who are expecting children
Women who long to be mothers
Single mothers
Those who find Mothering Sunday difficult
Families with strained or complicated relationships
We ask you to bless them, comfort them and surround them with your gentleness and your peace.
We also remember Mary, the Mother of Jesus and Mother of us all, whose love and faithfulness guide us always. We ask her to be with us and pray for us, as we say…
Hail Mary, full of grace,

It’s not about being miserable; it’s about a ‘power move’ to clear out the clutter in our lives to make room for what actually matters. Let’s explore how small sacrifices can lead to true freedom.”

Lord, help us to understand that when we give something up for You, we aren’t losing—we are gaining freedom. Give us the grit to stick to our Lenten promises and the heart to see where we are needed most. Amen.

Good morning! We invite you to begin by making the Sign of the Cross:
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Today is our Prayer Journal day. We are slowing down to look closely at the Stations of the Cross. This ancient devotion isn’t just a history lesson; it’s a roadmap of what sacrifice looks like in real-time. Each station shows Jesus facing a different kind of challenge; betrayal, physical exhaustion, emotional pain, and ultimately, total self-gift. By reflecting on these moments, we can find the courage to face our own “crosses” this week, no matter how big or small they may seem.
Read through the list of the 14 Stations. Which one stands out to you today? Maybe it’s Station 5 (Simon of Cyrene helps Jesus), representing the sacrifice of our time for others. Or perhaps Station 7 (Jesus falls a second time), representing the sacrifice of pride when we have to start over after a mistake.
Draw a simple representation of your chosen station. It doesn’t need to be a masterpiece, focus on a single symbol, like a hand, a heavy beam, or a crown of thorns. Beneath your sketch, write a three-line prayer.
Line 1: Thank Jesus for his courage in that moment.
Line 2: Name a small sacrifice you want to make this week.
Line 3: Ask for the grace to carry it through.
- Jesus is condemned to death: Pilate condemns Jesus.
- Jesus carries His cross: Jesus accepts the heavy burden.
- Jesus falls the first time: Weakened, Jesus falls under the weight.
- Jesus meets His Mother: Jesus meets Mary on the road.
- Simon of Cyrene helps Jesus carry the cross: Simon is forced to help.
- Veronica wipes the face of Jesus: A woman acts with compassion.
- Jesus falls the second time: Jesus falls again, struggling on.
- Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem: Jesus comforts the weeping women.
- Jesus falls a third time: Jesus reaches the limit of his strength.
- Jesus’ clothes are taken away: Jesus is stripped and humiliated.
- Jesus is nailed to the cross: Jesus is crucified.
- Jesus dies on the cross: Jesus completes his sacrifice.
- The body of Jesus is taken down from the cross: Mary receives her son.
- Jesus is laid in the tomb: Jesus is buried, awaiting resurrection.

Celebration of the Word – The Stations of the Cross
During Lent, we reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus and what it means for our lives. His sacrifice is a powerful reminder of God’s love for us. It also calls us to follow His example—living not just for ourselves, but for others, as humble servants.
This morning, the Chaplaincy Team are going to lead us in the Stations of the Cross. Please take a moment to prepare yourselves and the room for prayer.
Throughout the Stations, there will be moments to join in with the responses and to pause for reflection after each station so keep an eye on the screen.
Let us open our hearts to this time of prayer together…

As you will have heard in last week’s COTW, we have launched our Lenten/ Easter fundraising – give a gift for CAFOD! Each week you are going to have at least a day to devote some time to planning and working on your fundraisers. Everyone should have received a CAFOD box and progress poster this week – if you haven’t, please drop Mrs Conlon an email.

Let us spend some time in prayer this morning offering thanks to God for our community, for the work of CAFOD and for all of the people in the world who are in need of some love and care at this time.
