On Friday, it is the year 10 retreat day. A plan for staff will be sent out this week. Students will be off timetable from period 1 – period 5. Students need to come in their normal school uniform and bring their usual school equipment.

The vast majority of you said you like the new site and the new ‘senses’ focus of each activity. You said that you want help planning and preparing as a form and we’ll make sure we spend time with you and give you chance to create really imaginative and engaging content.
Based on your feedback we’re going to continue to grow and develop the resources and this week:

The word of the week is Missionary Discipleship
We are in the 10th week of Ordinary Time and the Liturgical colour is green! This week’s resources have been planned by 7E.
Welcome back! We remember that we meet in the presence of God by making the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
Missionary Discipleship means not only to be a follower of Jesus and to try to live like Him, but to be a witness to Jesus and to share Jesus’s ministry and teachings with others. Being a missionary means to physically go out into the world and share the love of Christ with others, to make the world a better place.
Please choose someone to read the scripture out loud that has been chosen by 7E.
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles,
Now as he went on his way, he approached Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven shone around him. And falling to the ground, he heard a voice saying to him,
“Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” And he said, “Who are you, Lord?”
And he said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. But rise and enter the city, and you will be told what you are to do.”
Now there was a disciple at Damascus named Ananias. The Lord said to him in a vision, “Ananias.” And he said, “Here I am, Lord.” And the Lord said to him, “Rise and go to the street called Straight, and at the house of Judas look for a man of Tarsus named Saul,
And laying his hands on him he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus who appeared to you on the road by which you came has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” And immediately something like scales fell from his eyes, and he regained his sight. Then he rose and was baptized; and taking food, he was strengthened.

Acts 9:1-19 – English Standard Version
“We chose this piece of scripture and the example of Paul as a missionary disciple because it reminds us that even if we have made mistakes and not always made the right choices, God loves us, forgives us and is waiting for us. Paul went from doing some really evil acts, to being a great example of a missionary disciple. Paul travelled and wrote many letters to different communities to help build and strengthen Christian communities.”
Last week some of our year 9 students and staff had a brilliant time on retreat at the Briars. Throughout the week they reflected on the theme of being ‘chosen’ by God. God calls each of us to be missionary disciples.
After watching the word of the week video, share with your form where you see examples of missionary discipleship in your school, parish and local community. How can we do it in the modern world?

In Friday’s Celebration of the Word, the Chaplaincy Team shared a reflection on Blessed Carlo Acutis. Before May half term, it was with great joy that we received the news that Blessed Carlo Acutis will be canonised and become a saint!
7E suggested Blessed Carlo Acutis as being a great example of a missionary disciple. Carlo used his gifts, skills and passion for using the internet to reach people and help people to encounter the Eucharist in the modern world.
Bishop Patrick spoke with BBC Radio East Midlands (Nottingham, Derby, Leicester) on Sunday 26th May, shorty after the announcement was made that Carlo Acutis would become the first millennial saint.

We pray…
O God our Father,
we thank you for giving us Carlo,
a model of life for young people,
and a message of love for all.
You made him fall in love with your son Jesus,
making the Eucharist his “highway to heaven.”
You gave him Mary as a beloved mother,
and you made him, through the Rosary,
a cantor of her tenderness.
Receive his prayer for us.
Look above all upon the poor, whom he loved and assisted.
Grant me too, through his intercession, the grace that I need.
And make our joy full, raising Carlo among
the saints of your Church,
so that his smile shines again for us
to the glory of your name. Amen.

7E would like you to think about the following piece of scripture and think about how it links to missionary discipleship…
A reading from the letter of St Paul to the Romans,
As the scripture says, “Everyone who calls out to the Lord for help will be saved.” But how can they call to him for help if they have not believed? And how can they believe if they have not heard the message? And how can they hear if the message is not proclaimed? And how can the message be proclaimed if the messengers are not sent out? As the scripture says, “How wonderful is the coming of messengers who bring good news!”

“How wonderful is the coming of messengers who bring good news!”
The scripture talks about the value of the messengers who bring the good news. If it was not for the first messengers of Jesus, how would we know about Jesus? If it wasn’t for the courage of Jesus’ first messengers, we might not have our wonderful church buildings or Catholic schools that provide safe spaces for us to share and celebrate our faith.
7E invite you to think…Is there anyone you could preach to?
Is there someone you know who might not know about Jesus? e.g. someone who doesn’t attend a Catholic School, or maybe someone who does attend a Catholic school but doesn’t go to Church on the weekend, maybe you know of a relative who has lost their faith or who doesn’t believe in anything.
Perhaps you don’t feel very close to Jesus at the moment and you might be that someone who could do with hearing more about the good news.
Use your prayer journals to write a prayer for someone who might not have received the Good News messages about Jesus.
If you have space and time, write some ways in which you can be a modern day messenger of Jesus and help others to encounter Him.

We pray for those who do not know the glory of God. We pray that they come to know Him and that people who are having a troubled time be filled with hope. Amen.

In our student voice for the new Be Inspirational website, you have asked for more links to current events to help us to connect our faith to the world around us. It is really important that we keep up to date with the current events in our world so that we can offer our prayers and care where we are able to. We are also aware that current events in the media and news aren’t always pleasant to hear, and especially at the moment, it can take a toll on our mental health if we are always surrounded by headlines that highlight conflict and disasters that exist in the world.
That’s why, today, we would like to devote some time to sharing some good news with one another.
So why is it important to share good news stories, even when the media landscape is displaying a huge amount of tragedy and conflict at the moment?
- Encouragement and Hope: In a world where negative news can dominate, sharing positive stories can uplift people’s spirits and remind them of the goodness and love that still exist.
- Witnessing God’s Work: Sharing good news is a way to witness and testify to God’s work in the world. It demonstrates how faith and God’s presence can bring about positive change and miracles in everyday life.
- Building Community: Positive stories help build and strengthen the Christian community. They provide a sense of shared joy and solidarity.
- Inspiring Others: Good news stories can inspire others to act with kindness, compassion, and love.
As we have learnt this week, part of being a missionary disciple means to be active in how we share the Good News, we are challenged to “do”, to move and reach people further afield.
In your form groups, we would like you to do just this. Every form has a good news postcard – on this postcard, 7E would like you to write down some good news that can be shared with another form in your year group.
This could be some personal good news that is personal to your form group e.g. a sports team win, a relative having a baby, someone is getting married or someone has been cured of an illness!
Or perhaps your form could do some research on the news to find out something good that has happened in the world and to let your form neighbour know about it!
Once your good news postcard is ready, choose 1/2 students to represent the form and be missionary disciples sharing the good news with another form.

We pray for the country as we prepare for the general election on the 4th July. We pray that the campaigners and voters seek truth, justice and peace.
