The Chapel at Lunchtimes – this week!…

The chapel will be open this week at break and lunchtimes. On Monday we are doing our final bits of filming for the school music video 2024! If you would like to be a part of the video and you have video consent, please see Ruth on Monday!

All are welcome – the school music video is an opportunity to celebrate and showcase our wonderful school community, you can get involved by waving, smiling, laughing, dancing, reading, walking, talking and much more!

Fairtrade Friday Tuckshop will be in the atrium during Friday lunchtime!

Welcome back everyone! This week’s word of the week is identity. This week is a great opportunity to look at who we are as individuals and as a whole school community.

You might recognise the identity of some of 11N in the video below – they planned this week’s prayer resources – and they talk about what makes them who they are. They also read and explain our scripture for this week – take a look…

R./ Glory to you O Lord

So they drew near to the village to which they were going. He acted as if he were going farther, but they urged him strongly, saying, “Stay with us, for it is towards evening and the day is now far spent.” So he went in to stay with them. When he was at table with them, he took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them. And their eyes were opened, and they recognised him. And he vanished from their sight. They said to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?”

This week’s scripture – that we heard in the video – helps us to think about how we can really ‘see’ each other for who we are – in the story, Jesus has appeared to his disciples but they don’t recognise him until they see him for who is really is during the breaking of bread.

To help everyone else see who you are as a form – we’re going to think about the two questions from the video – Who are you? What gives you your identity?

Each form should have a badge or poster for your form room door. (If you don’t just use some paper!) While you talk and share your answers to the questions with each other – pass the paper around and write on it your name and something that makes you who you are (something like: “Jamie – I love playing sport”).

When it’s finished – put in on your door so everyone who comes into your form room today can see your identity!

Lord, thank you for making us in your image and for giving us an identity. Help us to recognise the dignity of each other and see people for who they really are.

11N Have chosen a perfect song to listen to today – this song could apply to many of the different people in our society who are often judged and discriminated against for who they are.

To recognise identity is to give people respect and dignity and as you listen to the song below, think about what lines of the song really speak to you and who in our world today is not “seen” for who they really are.

Take some time to hear what each other has got to say – you could talk about it in small groups or even as a class.

Who is often judged and not seen for who they really are?

Who do we need to look at differently so that we can recognise them as a child of God?

As today we are thinking about what we hear, take a moment now in silence, bow your heads as listen to what God might be calling you to do today to recognise people’s identity.

Lord, help us to see people as they really are. Help us to be understanding and kind so that we can make our school community a place of acceptance and love. Amen

We’re going to spend some time reflecting on our Word of the Week and what we’ve done so far in form time.

In your Prayer Journals write or draw something about your identity. Who has God made you to be?

You might want to draw a self portrait or write something down – it’s up to you. You could also spend some time thinking about the things people love about you and who in your life really sees you as you are.

To help set the tone and to help people think, listen to this song which links with our theme.

When you’ve all had some time to think, reflect and write in your prayer journals. Focus today on how you can encourage those around you to shine and how you can give confidence to others to be themselves.
