Prayer – Main School Prayer Resources
The Becket Way Theme of the week – “Banter is never an excuse“
At The Becket School, we believe that every person should feel safe, valued, and respected.
We don’t ever use ‘banter’ as a term to excuse unkindness or bullying. We usually have no idea how our words/actions are affecting the inside of somebody else…. Even if they laugh it off on the outside.
We often have no idea what someone is feeling on the inside, even if they seem to laugh things off on the outside. A joke to one person might be hurtful to another. That’s why we are mindful of our words and make sure that what we say builds people up rather than knocks them down.
Why is this important in how we do things at The Becket School?

This week’s prayer resources were planned by 8T- Thank you!
This week we are praying for…
- We continue to pray for Pope Francis, who is in hospital suffering from critical illness
- We pray for Year 11 as they begin their mock exams
- We pray for an end to world hunger and food poverty
Please keep them in your prayers this week and don’t forget to add any suggestions for prayer intentions to the comments box below!

On Friday, there will be soup and a bread roll available for £1! All proceeds will go towards CAFOD’s Lenten appeal.
Saturday – On Saturday, some of our students will be attending “Flame” in the Wembley Arena in London. Students need to arrive at The Becket at 7:15am for a 7:30am departure on coach. Good morning, we invite you to join us in making the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
We are in the first week of Lent and the word of the week is Prayer! Make sure to update your Liturgical wheels and Liturgical colour flipcharts with the correct colour!
Let’s take a look at today’s Lenten challenge…

The wonderful 8T have created our prayer resources this week. Let’s dive right in to see what our word of the week is all about…
Let’s get into some discussion about prayer! Where do you pray? When do you pray? What do you pray about? Why do you pray? What is your favourite way to pray?
Talk with the people around you and let’s inspire each other to pray this week!
As our word of the week is prayer, please write in the comments box below something or someone your form would like to pray for. Let us all keep in mind the health of Pope Francis and our year 11’s beginning their mocks today.
Pause for a moment of silence and let us spend a moment in the quiet offering these intentions to God and hand over to Him any worries we have. (Pause for silence)
We pray together:
Our Father, Who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done, On earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread, And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
We finish this time of prayer together, by making the Sign of the Cross…In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
Good morning, let’s take a look at today’s Lenten challenge…

We invite you to make the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

Today we are going to use our prayer journals to write a prayer. This could be a prayer of thanks or of forgiveness. It might be a prayer for someone else, or you might be asking for some help or guidance with something in your own life. You might prefer to draw your prayer, rather than write it down.
Remember prayer is simply a conversation with God. Open your heart and tell Him what is on your mind.
8T have created an acrostic using the word PRAYER to help them. Let’s hear 8T read out their prayer now to give you some inspiration.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father,
In this season of Lent, help me to make time for You.
When life feels busy, remind me to pause and pray.
Open my heart to listen, my mind to understand,
And my soul to grow closer to You.
Teach me to trust You in the quiet moments,
To speak to You like a friend,
And to know that You are always with me.
Amen.
We end our prayer with the sign of the cross,
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Good morning, let’s start the day by checking in with today’s Lenten challenge…

We invite you to make the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
Today 8T want you to get thinking as they have written a quiz for us all about prayer! Make sure you write your form and your scores in the comments box below… A little bit of healthy competition never hurt anyone!
Please download the quiz below (hide the answers!)
Thank you for taking part in our quiz.
Now let us finish together in prayer…
Jesus, You said, “When you pray, go into your room, close the door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen.”
In this season of Lent, help me to find quiet moments with You.
Not just in the chapel or at church, but in the stillness of my heart.
Teach me to pray with honesty, with trust, and with love.
Remind me that You are always listening, even when I don’t have the words.
Amen.
We end with the sign of the cross, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Good morning, let’s take a quick look at today and Saturday’s Lenten challenge…

We invite you to begin this time of prayer by making the Sign of the Cross. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
Today we’re going to do something special! One way we pray at The Becket school is by saying our prayer before our lunchtime meal. Prayer can be said in the silence of our hearts and minds, but also in any language. 8T, with the help of Miss Wren, have learnt how to say our lunchtime prayer in sign language.
First, please just watch and enjoy the video of 8T. Then, play the video again and join with the sign language the second time round! Maybe as a form you could try to learn it this Lent!

Remember, this lunchtime to be particularly generous yourself and support CAFOD’s Family Fast Day by giving a £1 for some soup and a bread roll! Live simply so that others may simply live!
Let us pray together…
Loving God,
You bless the world with enough for all, yet so many go hungry.
Open our hearts to share, our hands to give, and our voices to speak out for justice.
Bless those who struggle to find food today—may they know Your care and hope.
Help us to live simply, so others may simply live.
Amen.
We end with the sign of the cross, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
